Applying for medical treatment
Frequently asked questions
Is Skåne Care a healthcare provider?
No. Skåne Care is the point of entry to Swedish public healthcare in Region Skåne for international, non-EU patients. If the public healthcare providers cannot offer the requested service, we can draw on selected private providers. Skåne Care is the coordinating link between the international patient and the healthcare provider, including coordination of patient information, logistics and payments.
Who can apply for care through Skåne Care?
Patients not resident in the EU who finance their care through personal funding or through sponsorship, for instance through an insurance company or state funding.

If you have an LMA card you should go to your healthcare centre for a referral to see a specialist, Skåne Care do not coordinate LMA patients. If you are not from an EU member state and want to pay for elective specialist care yourself, you may be able to apply for care through Skåne Care. A valid ID or passport is required.
